I’ve applied!

Now what?!

Please take a moment to learn about who we are, what we do and how we select adopters!

We are NOT your typical rescue. We are a small, but mighty, foster-based rescue WITHOUT a facility. Our pets are scattered in loving foster homes across Southeast Louisiana getting the love and medical attention they need. Generally, the pets we come by are feral, stray, special needs and/or in need of socialization and medical attention. We average a bill of about $1000, in veterinary care alone, per dog. Our primary concern is the exceptional care our dogs will receive for the remainder of their lives. We aim for quality over quantity. We want our rescue’s next home to be their FUREVER home.

Our applications are admittedly thorough. They are a 3-step process: written application, home check and 1-week Home Trial Visit. Applicants MUST be over the age of 21 and NOT currently a first time college student. Potential Adopters are approved based on each individual rescue’s specific needs (ie. breed, temperament, energy level, behavioral issues, special needs). If the written application is approved, we’ll do a home check next. If home check is approved, we schedule a meet and greet. If all goes well, the Potential Adopter may take the rescue home for a one week home trial visit to see if they’re a good fit. Should the home visit be a mutual success, we finalize the adoption formally with our contract and an adoption fee. Fees range from $250-$475 depending on age, health and breed of the dog.

We DO offer out of state adoptions AND schedule transport (volunteer and/or paid depending on availability). Adopter is responsible for expenses incurred if returning the dog. For this reason, we generally only transport dogs with stellar personalities that are behaviorally sound.

What’s included:

  • Spay/Neuter

  • Deworm schedule (7-10 day course of Panacur, 2 doses of Pyrantel, Virbantel as needed)

  • 9-in-1 Vaccine (Distemper, Adenovirus Type 1, Adenovirus Type 2, Parvo, Parainfluenza, 4 different strains of Leptospirosis)

  • Bordetalla Vaccine (Kennel Cough)

  • Booster shots if dog wasn’t previously vaccinated

  • 1-year Rabies Vaccine

  • Heartworm test

  • Heartworm prevention

  • Flea/tick/prevention

  • 24PetWatch Microchip with free registration

  • Leash + collar

  • Heartworm treatment (if necessary)

  • Heartworm+ dogs will get a retest 6-months later to ensure treatment was successful

  • If your dog tests HW+ at their 6-month check up (and they have been on preventative) we will fully fund treatment

Our volunteer rescue team will review your written application and if we think you're a good match for the rescue, you'll hear back from our Adoption Coordinator. Application approvals are not decided by one person, but by our entire rescue team with solely the rescue's needs in mind.

Please be patient.

We believe that important decisions should take time and that if it’s meant to be, it will be. We have great financial and emotional investments in our animals. Please do not consider our applications to be personal evaluations. Our decisions are always made in the best interest of the animal. We get DOZENS (and sometimes HUNDREDS) of messages via Petfinder, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, phone, text and email about EACH of our rescues DAILY. We do the best we can to respond to them all, but ultimately, there's just not always enough hours in the day. If you're seriously interested in on of our adoptable pets, the best course of action is to submit an application and BE PATIENT. We DO go through EVERY application that we receive on a first-come first-served basis and will select the home BEST SUITED for that particular rescue. There is an ideal lifestyle we have in mind for each of our rescues based on what we've learned about them during their stay with us. If you DO NOT receive a call it DOES NOT mean you were forgotten or declined. We very likely had a barrage of applicants before you and one of those was a clear winner. Please keep in mind, we all have full time jobs, families, foster pets and permanent pets of our own, so PLEASE be patient and allow us ample time to do this volunteer work in what little free time we have.

Thanks for your time and wanting to give our rescue a new leash on life!
